eIDAS2.0 framework expansion to include ID holders' affiliated autonomous systems could underpin transparency & accountability measures as we integrate Agentic & Embodied Systems into current sectors like banking, logistics, insurance & taxation.
Embodied and Agentic Systems have the ability to act autonomously in the physical and digital worlds on behalf of their operators. They do not, however, currently have a standardized method of identification or sub-authorization that would satisfy the requirements of secure systems in sectors link banking, logistics, insurance or taxation. Through the expansion of the eIDAS2.0 framework, an associated identity for autonomous systems (Embodied or Agentic) could be attached to an existing digital ID in the EUDI Wallet. The interoperability of digital authorization across the EU could serve as the foundation for an array of regulatory frameworks already in development to promote safe and transparent adoption of autonomous systems within secure frameworks.
Emily Genatowski is an experimental AI researcher and one of the first people to live with a humanoid robot at her residence in Vienna. A PhD Candidate in Digital Humanities at The University of Vienna, she holds degrees from both Harvard University and Columbia University. Emily is a former lead at Google Arts & Culture and now conducts experimental research on legal regulation, institutional policy, and digital and physical infrastructure readiness for Embodied AI adoption. She creates solutions to the tensions that arise within her immersive research, and she also writes and lectures on AI, ethics, regulation, and society.
